Whenever one of our musical brothers and sisters have needed help, Alec was the first one to stand up and chip in. Now he needs our help. Alec has been unable to work recently due to a medical condition and on Monday, October 19th, Toronto’s loyal blues community will be banding together to help Alec by holding a fundraising benefit concert at the Silver Dollar Room.
Jerome Godboo and Steve Strongman, Danny Marks, Jack de Keyzer, and many others of Alec’s musical friends.
Since moving to Canada in his teens, Alec has been one of the country’s most in-demand bass players and has performed or recorded with international artists such as Bo Diddley, The Drifters, Kim Wilson, Ian Gillian, Willie” Big Eyes” Smith, Ray Benson, Mel Brown, Sam Myers, Finis Tasby, Cream’s Jack Bruce, and The Jeff Healey Band.
In 2004, Alec won ‘Bassist of the Year’ at the Maple Blues Awards. As a producer, Alec has worked on Jeff Healey’s Mess Of Blues album which spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard blues charts, Jack de Keyzer’s 6 String Lover which won the 2003 Juno Award for ‘Blues Album of the Year’, Morgan Davis’ Painkiller which won the 2004 Juno for ‘Blues Album of the Year’ and 2004 Maple Blues Award for ‘Recording of the Year’, and countless others.
